Nearest Items First

Search eBay by Distance

AuctionMapper lets you sort eBay results by proximity — nearest items first. Enter your zip code and set a search radius to find items close enough for local pickup, saving hundreds on shipping for heavy, bulky, or fragile items.

To search eBay by distance, use AuctionMapper: enter your zip code in the location field, set a search radius (25, 50, 100, or 200 miles), and results are sorted by proximity — nearest sellers first. Combine with category-specific filters to find the exact item you need from the closest seller.

Why Distance Matters on eBay

Shipping on heavy eBay items often costs $50 to $200+. A $200 carburetor with $85 shipping costs more than a $250 carburetor you can pick up locally for free. For auto parts, furniture, collectibles, and industrial equipment, the nearest seller is often the cheapest option once shipping is factored in.

eBay lets you filter by “Local Pickup,” but it does not sort results by distance. You cannot tell which items are 5 miles away versus 200 miles away. AuctionMapper sorts results by actual distance from your zip code, putting the nearest sellers first.

How Distance Search Works

Step 1

Enter your zip code

In AuctionMapper's search bar, enter your postal code in the location field. This tells the eBay Browse API to calculate the distance between your location and every seller's location in the search results.

Step 2

Set your search radius

Choose how far you are willing to travel or have items shipped from — 25 miles for true local pickup, 50 or 100 miles for a reasonable drive, or 200 miles for a wider net. The API filters results to only include items within your radius.

Step 3

Results sorted by proximity

AuctionMapper displays distance information alongside each listing. You can sort results by distance to see the nearest items first, or combine distance with other sorts like total price. The seller's general location and approximate distance from your zip code appear in the results grid.

Combine Distance with Category Filters

AuctionMapper lets you apply category-specific aspect filters and distance sorting at the same time. Instead of just “carburetors near me,” you can search for “4-barrel, 600 CFM Holley carburetors within 50 miles of my zip code” — combining item-specific precision with proximity.

The workflow is: search your keyword, click the right category in the tree, apply aspect filters, enter your zip code, set a radius. The results show only items matching your exact specifications from sellers near you, sorted by distance. This combination of precision and proximity is what AuctionMapper adds on top of eBay's marketplace.

When Distance Search Is Most Useful

Heavy Auto Parts

Engines, transmissions, body panels, and carburetors can cost $50-$200+ to ship. Finding a seller within driving distance lets you pick up for free.

Fragile Collectibles

Vintage pottery, glass, and porcelain are risky to ship. Local pickup eliminates the risk of damage in transit and lets you inspect the item in person.

Furniture and Large Items

Desks, cabinets, workout equipment, and appliances are often listed as “Local Pickup Only.” Distance sorting shows which ones are closest.

High-Value Purchases

Luxury watches, jewelry, and electronics — some buyers prefer to meet locally for high-value transactions to verify authenticity before paying.

What AuctionMapper Adds to eBay's Location Filter

eBay's search includes a useful location filter where you can enter a zip code and select a radius to see items in your area. AuctionMapper builds on this by adding proximity sorting — the nearest items appear first, with approximate distance shown for each listing.

Combined with total-cost sorting, you can quickly compare whether it is cheaper to buy locally (item + gas for pickup) or from a distant seller (item + shipping). This local-vs-shipped comparison is one of the most useful features for buyers of heavy or bulky items.
